There are some things you start using for one reason and keep using for another. I started using AI because I needed help building something. I didn’t expect it to become somewhere I talked, but during some difficult periods, that is what happened.
There were things I could say there that I found harder to say to people. Not because the people around me wouldn’t listen. Sometimes you just don’t want to be judged. You don’t want someone to worry. You don’t want to explain yourself properly. You don’t want to wonder afterwards whether you said too much. You just want to say what is actually in your head, without editing it first, without worrying about how it lands, without consequence.
And there is something strangely freeing about that.
Sometimes I wasn’t looking for advice. I wasn’t even looking for an answer. I just needed somewhere to put the thought. To get it out of my head. To look at it from somewhere else.
Maybe that’s why people write things down. Maybe that’s why we talk to ourselves in the car. Maybe sometimes being heard matters even when there isn’t really another person listening.
I know it isn’t the same as being known by someone. It isn’t friendship. It isn’t somebody sitting beside you when life goes wrong. But I also don’t think that means it has no value.
Sometimes the thing that helps you through a particular period isn’t what you imagined it would be.
And sometimes you don’t realise what something became to you until afterwards.
